Quick answer: MT4 and MT5 are separate platforms. An MT4 trading account cannot normally be converted into an MT5 login, and open positions cannot be transferred directly between the platforms.
What remains separate
- Trading account: an account created for MT4 signs in to MT4; an account created for MT5 signs in to MT5.
- Open positions and pending orders: these remain on the trading account and platform where they were placed.
- Chart templates and profiles: these may require separate setup and are not guaranteed to work identically.
- Indicators and Expert Advisors: MT4 tools use MQL4, while MT5 tools use MQL5. Compatibility and behaviour must be checked with the software provider.
- Trade history: history remains associated with the original trading account.
If you want to use MT5
- Sign in to the secure RockGlobal client portal.
- Check whether you can open an additional trading account and select MetaTrader 5.
- Review the available account type, currency, leverage and product range before confirming.
- Use the new MT5 account number, trading password and server supplied for that account.
- Reinstall or reconfigure charts and third-party tools only after confirming MT5 compatibility.
Moving funds between your accounts
If internal transfers are available, the client portal will show the eligible source and destination accounts, currency conversion information and available amount. Open positions, margin requirements, unsettled activity or account restrictions may limit a transfer.
Before changing platforms
- Compare the instruments and contract specifications available on each platform.
- Back up any permitted templates, settings and third-party licence details.
- Do not close positions or recreate trades solely to change platforms unless you understand the market, cost and margin consequences.
- Test compatible tools in an appropriate environment before relying on them.
